Mati Amar Ma is the story of rebellious Devika and Nargis who in a mysterious way are tied to the cause of helping the downtrodden of their village. The story is one of those stereotypical dramas where you get to see a fallen and bitter zamindar, an uncouth young lad trying to take advantage of vulnerable village girls, a greedy and scheming manager, a city educated young lady brimming with the passion to bring a change in society and an ailing mother whose ultimate wish is to see her daughter happily married.
The only difference here probably is the emergence of Nargis(Rituparna), the lady with no traceable background who takes upon herself the responsibility to finish the tasks that Devika had initiated for the welfare of the villagers.
The movie that does not have anything new to offer has miserably failed in its overall appeal which was quite evident from the reaction of the audience present in the theater who seemed to be more interested in talking over the phone outside the cinema hall than actually watching the movie. The premiere too was lack luster and even though the movie had some of the biggest stars of the industry like Rituparna Sengupta, Rachana Banerjee, Dipankar De, Paran Bandopadhyay, Mamata Shankar and such others, none were seen in the premiere. Of the few guests present in the premiere was the director himself Mr. Dulal Dey and some upcoming artists looking forward to make a mark in the industry.
Owed to the presence of some of the biggest names in the industry, a certain section of people may be drawn to the theaters to watch this and we are hopeful that the movie will get its due appreciation.
