This unique audio visual drama which promises to answer the question of “What next” for the Bengali Adhunik gaan lovers has a lot of unique elements to it and is already creating ripples in the Kolkata Music circle.
The album “Last Counter” has been aptly called an audio musical drama as in this, along with the musical elements, the sense of drama has been highly emphasized upon and the entire album has been structured in a such a way that the narration seems to be done by an old canteen which was once flourishing and the center point of the lives of many youngsters but is now unused and soon to be broken down to make way for another modern facility of the college.
Ace singers like Rupam Islam from Fossils, Anindiya from Chandrabindoo, Somlata Acharya and even Sahana Bajpai who have a special place in the hearts of the Bengali youth of today have lend their voices to this New Kolkata Bangla Music album and each one has done their part beautifully.
Rajkumar Sengupta whose brain child is Last Counter is to be credited for the concept, story and music of this wonderful album. As all the singers unanimously agreed, Rajkumar had a strong conviction about this project and s worked on it with equal efforts and dexterity, the result of which are these eight peppy, melodious and hummable songs. The songs have been made to give importance to the melody without really overdoing the music. The visuals make this album all the more special as they tickle some very close to heart or even closely guarded corners of our memories. The name “Last Counter” which literally means the last drag of a cigarette signifies the last dying days of that once popular college canteen.

My contribution to the drama part was completely through the songs as the sentiment that I had to evoke through my songs was an integral part of the format of this album. The album is also very close to my heart because I could very well relate to my college days used to even get very nostalgic at times.
Rupam Islam, the youth icon and singer of leading Bangla band Fossils also spoke to Sholoana Bangaliana and said that his contribution to the drama part was also through his songs and the emotions and sentiments that he could display through his songs.
