On the auspicious occasion of Eid Mubarak, Raj Chakroborty’s Proloy starring Parambrata, Mimi Chakroborty, Paran Bandopadhyay and the power house of talent Saswata Chatterjee opened to a not just full but spilling house in Priya Cinemas Kolkata. The guests who came to the premiere to wish Raj and his team Luck included the entire Bengali film fraternity. Right from pretty actresses to award winning film makers, Bollywood hero Jeet, director Sandip Ray, Actor-director Sanjay Nag, Director Srijit Mukherhee and Birsa Dasgupta, Swastika, June, Ananya, to name a few were there at the premiere.
Along with being one common juncture where the celebrities and their fans come together, the premiere also works as a perfect stage to spark off a style statement and this Durga Puja, the style statement is definitely the white sari with a ‘touch me now’ red blouse that was not just sported by the Bengali Diva Mimi Chakroborty but many other actresses too. Ethnic Bengali traditional saris with matching costume jewelry sparkled all around. Swastika who most often than not succeeds to drive the shutterbugs in a clicking frenzy was also at her prettiest in the premiere and looked ‘Oh so ravishing!’ in a blue chiffon sari and a quite revealing satin blouse with the traditional juhi flowers gajra in her hair and a pair of heavy danglers. Ananya Chatterjee was the most differently dressed in denims, a low neck flowing top and a good load of junk jewelry. Koel who arrived a little late with her father Ranjit Mallick was dressed in a cool casual pair of denims and a blue top.
With the men, blue and black seemed to be the color of the day and the outfits ranged from denims and light jackets to the traditional kurta.
The primary highlight of the premiere was the presence of Barun Biswas’s parents. Sholoana Bangaliana asked the martyr’s father if he was happy with the way Barun’s life has been portrayed in the movie to which with tears in eyes he said, “I am happy that people are acknowledging his efforts and struggle but the fact that Borun himself is not here to see all this and that in his lifetime no one either helped or recognized his efforts breaks his mother’s and my heart’. There are probably no words to pacify this old bereaved couple who have lost their son as the pain of losing a child cannot be lessened with any kind of solace.
Another very interesting part about the premiere was the presence of Parambrata’s fan club, all with placards showing “Barun Biswas Ke”. The sheer number of Param fans who had come to this premiere and their word of mouth publicity is probably enough to ensure the successful running of this New Bangla movie with full houses for weeks together. People from Borun’s native village Sukhiya were also present at the premiere.
Here are a few celebrity reactions about the movie, performance of actors, Box Office expectations and all such aspects:
The gorgeous Mimi Chakroborty: “I was way too nervous and since morning have been praying hard.. But now I am a bit relieved as most of the halls where the movie has released have reported great audience response”.
The Captain of the ship, Director Raj Chakroborty, “ I too had my fingers crossed all day but now that reports about the movie are quite positive I am quite excited. When asked about the selection of this subject for his film Raj said,”Everyone has a Barun Biswas within and this movie is the most fitting in the current scenario when atrocities on women have taken their all time high”.
Bollywood Hero Sujoy: “The movie is outstanding, no words for it”. Sujoy was also asked to score Param and Apu da(Saswata Chatterjee) and Sujoy instantly replied “Apu Da is my favorite”.
Director Birsa Dasgupta was asked to describe the movie in one word to which he said, “Superhit”. When asked to compare with Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express, Birsa says, “Proloy and Chennai Express cannot be compared as these are two absolutely different genres”.
The fact that the movie was able to keep the audience absolutely engaged from the beginning to the end speaks volumes about the director’s understanding of what the audience wants. A powerful subject, an item song, subtle romance, hideous criminals and their well deserved brutal ends and most important of all Saswata Chatterjee’s power packed performance and fantastic dialogues which kept driving the crowd into roars of laughter and appreciation, all add to the Masala of the movie sealing its fate as a Box Office star.
Sholoana Bangaliana strongly recommends watching Proloy as the movie promises some real entertainment.
