Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts presented two very interesting events on Saturday, August 3rd 2013 at 94, Ballygunge Place.

Young, talented artist Nandan Purkayastha’s painting exhibition at Weavers Studio Centre For The Arts was inaugurated by Shri Ramananda Bandyopadhyay, Smt Bharati Ray (ICCR), Shri Nemai Ghosh, Shri Baruan Chanda & Smt Rajashree Behera (Regional Dir ICCR) . Nandan is the nephew of famous artist Jayasri Burman and grand nephew of world renowned artist Sakti Burman. Attached are some images of the Inauguration. The exhibition is on at Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts, 94 Ballygaunge Place till 10th August, 2013.

This was followed by a listening session of old & rare gramophone records featuring music by Nayikas (Baijis) from the 1902 to 1950. This presentation was made to a packed audience at the gallery by Shri Rantideb Maitra and Shri Ashis Bhadra. A film on the life of tawaifs of early 20th century, by Shri Anindya Banerjee, was screened later. These exclusive songs were played in order to create awareness about our our rich music heritage and the importance of preserving, documenting, digitizing, curating and archiving the same.
