“Aditi, get off that damn computer.” (Her father)
KALKUTTA KOMEDIANS are Kolkata’s finest English standup comedy group, not least because they are Kolkata’s only English standup comedy group.
Raouf Gangjee: The half-German founder of Kalkutta Komedians. During the historic battle to change the name of Calcutta to Kolkata, he fought valiantly against the intelligentsia (on behalf of the stupidsia) to use the German spelling ‘Kalkutta’ instead (as in ‘Kalkutta Über Alles’). He has appeared on the cover of the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first person in history with any German blood to have a sense of humour.
Anirban Dasgupta completed engineering and moved to Sales just like a good student would do. Then he moved to standup comedy which was logical for him to do. Apart from making smart professional and personal decisions, he also loves politics. After all, a comedian must love the source of his material.
Vaibhav Sethia says “I’m just another Marwari kid born into decent money. I pretend to be an actor, graphic designer and architect during the day, and then laze around in the evenings, taking antacids. Thanks to Bhujia and Papad, love you guys, mmmuah. An IIT-ian by degree (yes, I’m showing off!) and a comedian at heart. I’m just experimenting in life, doing what I like the most- performing stand-up comedy.”
