South City Mall, Kolkata on the evening of September 4th was again flooded with Rituparno Ghosh nostalgia as this grand shopping venue played host to the launching ceremony of Satyanweshi merchandise; Mugs designed by the legendary film maker that reveal the sentiments of his last film.
“This mug which has the face of a tiger painted is symbolic of Satyanweshi as it probably represents a mask beneath which lies the real truth”, said actor-director Sujoy Ghosh who has played the role of Byomkesh in Satyanweshi. Sujoy also revealed that on the sets of Satyanweshi Ritu Da always used to have tea from this mug which at that time only he had and whenever we wanted to borrow this masterpiece from him, we got nothing but denial, thus making it all the more coveted. And now that it has been launched for the public I am glad to posses one as this will probably be another way of intertwining Rituparno Ghosh’s memories in our day to day lives.
Anindya Chatterjee, who was also present at the merchandise launch, also had fond memories of this mug and its Rituparno Ghosh connection. Ritu’s bearded Ajit, singer-actor Anindya also seemed quite nervous and at the same time excited about the movie and time and again urged the audience to watch the movie. Anindya also said that not just this mug, Ritu Da had created many such emblems and logos for the movie of which the ‘BB’ of Byomkesh Bakshi is also one that is very special.
Also present at the event was Mr. Santanu Ghosh, Area Controller of Shopper’s Stop Limited who seemed to be really happy to have Satyanweshi merchandise on sale in his specialty store. Mr. Ghosh revealed that in the past they had got great response from the sales of Bollywood Movie merchandise and this mug being so closely attached to the memories of one of Bengal’s most beloved film makers Rituparno Ghosh is sure to be one of the hot selling items again.
With the unveiling of this mug, memories of Rituparno Ghosh the painter was refreshed in the minds of people of Kolkata at a time when everyone, right from the masses to the classes are eagerly looking forward to see the last master strokes of the master film maker, Late Rituparno Ghosh.
September 6th, the day Satyanweshi is set to release is expected to be another Rituparno Ghosh day that Kolkata is sure to celebrate with great pomp and show.
