Bhawanipore 75 Palli has been a progressive club in its thoughts and expression and every year tries to blend innovation with the traditional to give the city of joy an installation they can love and cherish in the days to come. It is with this thought in the very soul of their creation that Bhawanipore 75 Palli this year being the 49th year, has come up with the theme ‘Mayer Anchaal’ followed by ‘Nil Sadai Ek Tukro Bhawanipore’ last year.
Last year, they painted around 20 houses on the main road of their locality blue and white in sync with the theme of their pandal. The result was the city struck in wonder and five awards in their kitty including Kolkata Sree from Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Snowchem Paint Puja Perfect. This year again, they are in process of making a wonder with million threads and a million colours that will come alive at the hands of famous installation artist Somnath Mukhopadhyay to culminate in the Anchaal of Mother Goddess Devi Durga.
“We always try to blend the traditional with the modern and Mayer Aanchal is the perfect blend of our traditions brought into the creative ambit by our artist Somnath Mukhopadhyay,” said Subir Das, Secretary, Bhawanipore 75 Palli Sorbojanin Durgotsav Committee.
Somnath Mukhopadhyay is a celebrated artist who has been awarded several times in different competitions and he is bringing the theme of unity of different colours into one fabric called saree. The name saree is very small but its symbolism is ancient. The Aanchal form an integral part of the saree making a woman both beautiful and attractive. The very Aanchal is also a symbol of protection and abroo. In Mahabharat, Dushsashan became the archetypal villain when he pulled at the aanchal of Draupadi, the aanchal became the symbol of motherhood and protection in the iconic movie Mother India and the very aanchal became the symbol of peppy love in the melody ‘Chor do Aaanchal’ made famous by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle.
When the Charka rolls with the wooden grate and the threads spin the myriad colors together we get aanchal the very blend of emotions, love, relations and human existence. Woven in the threads of dedication and creativity, aanchal becomes the metaphor of human bond, unifying people of different colours into one fabric of love and care-‘Unity in Diversity’. It is with this thought that Bhwanipore 75 Palli brings to life “Mayer Aanchal” through which they have tried to stitch and weave human emotions and relationships.
The locality will be lit up with led lights in blue and white hue making the locality come resplendent with colour and lights. The blue and white stands for infinite sky like “Anchol” which protects the finite. While the mandap will be built over 200 sqft area the Goddess will be 11 ft in height. The very threads that will decorate the pandal will culminate into the aanchal of the Goddess making the effort unique and united.
