The film which is the name sake of the 1967 film starring Superstar Uttam Kumar and Anjana Bhowmick, revolves around the unknown and much darker shades of the apparently shining Tollywood.
This New Kolkata Bengali Movie is even more sought after because its marking the comeback film of Arunima Ghosh, the versatile and talented actress, who was found to be missing out from the Industry limelight for quite some time. Apart from Arunima, who has played the lead protagonist, we will also see Indraneil Sengupta as Diya’s ex boyfriend and screen hero ‘Bijit’, Mumtaz Sorcar as Diya’s competitor Anuradha and Samadarshi Dutta, who plays an investigative journalist Nikhil Banerjee. The film also stars Locket Chatterjee in an important character.
This New Kolkata Bengali Movie is all set to expose the darker side of the apparently glamorous film industry, somewhat similar to the Madhur Bhandarkar movie “Heroine”, which featured Kareena Kapoor as the frustrated & alcoholic actress ‘Mahi’. But Heroine was more of a social & realistic genre whereas the plot of Bappaditya Banerjee’s ‘ Nayika Sangbad’ is almost like a suspense thriller, much similar to the thematic lines of late Rituparno Ghosh’s “Subho Moharat” or his last telefilm “Tahar Namti Ranjana”. The director who received huge appreciation for his previous films like ‘Kaantatar’, ‘Elar Char Adhyay’, ‘Kagojer Bou’ and most of all his critically acclaimed Hindi film ‘Devaki’, is all set to bring on screen the known and unknown secrets of film Industry. Perhaps, Bappaditya Banerjee has tried a different genre with Nayika Sangbad.
Now coming to the musical front, Nayika Sangbad contains seven songs, written by Gourab Chatterjee (of Lokkhi Chhara Band fame), Abhijit Bose & the composer Indradeep Dasgupta himself. Singers like Iman Chakraborty, Ujjaini Mukherjee & Gourab Chatterjee, Abhijit Bose and last but not the least Anupam Roy has lend their voices for the movie.
