Nawazuddin Siddiqui was recently in Kolkata on the day of Maha Sashti when he met the press and spoke at length about his movies Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa, Mountain Man and his other upcoming projects.

Right at the outset of the conference Mr. Siddiqui was asked about the role he is playing in Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa. Nawaz revealed that this movie is about a guy who is inherently very inquisitive and loves to peep into other people’s lives. This very boy on growing up makes this habit of being nosy his profession, and becomes a detective. However, the story embarks on a new journey when he starts peeping into his own life. The movie from here on is a journey tracing Anwar’s brain waves which takes him into a world of self realization and introspection. Ananya Chatterjee, Niharika Singh, Pankaj Tripathi and others have also played important roles in this movie.

Talking about Mountain Man Mr. Siddiqui said that this Ketan Mehta directorial is probably one of the most challenging roles that he has ever played on screen as in this movie he had to depict all phases of a man’s life and had to play the roles of a young lad of 22 as well as that of a wizened old man of 75. This movie, says Nawaz had been a huge learning experience for him too. Timangshu Dhulia and Radhika Apte have also acted in this movie which has already been screened in the London Film festival and is set to release in India.

Sholoana Bangaliana asked Mr. Siddiqui about his experience of working with Bengali directors and his Kolkata connection to which he said that he seems to have developed some unspoken bond with this city as consciously or unconsciously he lands up working with Bengali directors. He even said that being choosier about his directors than the scripts somehow he happens to zero down on Bengali directors only in most of the cases as not only are they academically very sound and well informed but also their wave length matches with his in most of the times. Nawazuddin, an erstwhile chemist who has made it big for himself in Bollywood also became nostalgic while talking about Kolkata and recounted the shooting days of Kahaani as that is when he had stayed in Kolkata for a very long time and had soaked in the smells and sound of the city.

Tollywood actress Ananya Chatterjee has acted with Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the movie Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa and when asked about his experience of working with Ananya, Nawaz’s first reaction was a Wow! Following which he went on to say that Ananya is a super talented actress and she deserves a place in Bollywood. He even said that initially he was a little unsure but when he saw Ananya in action, he was totally awestruck by her maturity of performance.

Though not too many questions were asked about his recent movie Lunchbox, yet one question that could not be evaded was about Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s souring relationship with Lunchbox co-actor Irfan Khan. Though the question was intended to draw out some very candid comments, the ever so diplomatic and poised Nawaz breezed it off saying that nothing is souring and in the film industry relationships are a different ball game altogether.

Nazawuddin also shared some bits from his personal life with the media and disclosed that his three year old daughter and wife are not much into cinema and whenever he gets time off shoots he enjoys spending time with family and listening to music of all kinds.

Before bidding adieu to the ever so inquisitive members of the Kolkata Press, Nawazuddin Siddiqui wished everyone a Very Happy Durga Puja and hoped that the Goddess brings with her prosperity and peace for the city.
