“Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster” series & “Pan Singh Tomar” Director Timangshu Dhulia is now ready with his first commercial Masala flick “Bullet Raja”, featuring Bollywood Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan and the “Lootera” girl Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. The film has been produced by Rahul Mittra, Nitin Tej Ahuja and Tigmanshu Dhulia, under the banner of Brand Smith Motion Pictures and Moving Pictures. The film is presented by Fox Star Studios. The film’s proposed name was “Jai Ram Ji Ki” but then Saif Ali Khan suggested that the name should be changed to “Bullett Raja” in order to give it a more ‘Gangsterish’ feel. All male characters were instructed to grow moustaches, just to ensure that the film looks manly and tough.
The film will feature the Chhote Nawab, Saif Ali Khan, Sonakshi Sinha & Jimmy Shergill in leading roles, and will have Chunkey Pandey, Ravi Kishen (Bhojouri Superstar), Gulshan Grover and Vidyut Jamwal playing important supporting characters.
Earlier, National Award winning actor Irrfan Khan (who has earlier played the protagonist in Timangshu’s awarding winning film “Pan Singar Tomar” and prior to that in “Sahib Biwi & Gangster Returns” was supposed play an important role in “Bullet Raja” as well. But Irrfan Khan could not act in the film due to his preoccupations. Irrfan was later replaced by Vidyut Jamwal, who has acted in films like “Force” and “Commando”. Being a trained martial artist himself, Vidyut Jamwal decided to design his stunts himself and without any body double.
Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha visited Kolkata for the shooting of their upcoming movie Bullet Raja. Reportedly, the stars are these days capturing the old-world charm of Kolkata with its Victorian era heritage structures, hand-pulled rickshaws and signature trams. As conceived & planned by the writer-director Tigmanshu Dhulia, Saif & Sonakshi recently shot in the Dalhousie area of central Kolkata where the “Lootera” actress rode a Tram and also a hand-pulled rickshaw, which was pulled by Saif himself.
Saif Ali Khan was given a rustic look by the make-up artist as he portrays a kurta-clad gun-toting goon from Uttar Pradesh/ Lucknow, who follows Sonakshi to Kolkata because he madly loves her. Sonakshi, who wore a bright red salwar, plays a Bengali girl in the thriller. Veteran Bollywood villain Gulshan Grover is also playing the role of local Don in Timangshu’s film.
The actors shot a special song sequence in the city, in which Saif introduced Sonakshi to the narrow lanes and bylanes and the grand old mansions of North Kolkata, the team has also shot in other locations such as Princep Ghat, Kumartuli, flower market and the famous Laha Bari.
The film is set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh-based mafia while dealing with the underworld. The film will be releasing on 29 November 2013. As this is the first time, Timangshu Dhulia is trying a hardcore commercial Masala film, let’s see what a gifted director and storyteller like Timangshu does to make “Bullet Raja” a distinguished product from the other Bollywood movies, which are based on the underworld / gangster themes (like gangster movies, which made by Ram Gopal Verma or Mahesh Bhatt).
