While Kolkata was still dazzling with the presence of the Bollywood glitterati in the city for the closing ceremony of the 19th Kolkata Film Festival, the shimmer of the city doubled up with Kareena Kapoor in Kolkata to promote her upcoming Bollywood Hindi Movie Gori Tere Pyar Mein with co-star Imran Khan and director Punit Malhotra.
The press conference which was held in Hotel Taj Bengal Kolkata saw the presence of the entire media fraternity eager to take the best pictures of the gorgeous lady and to ask her questions that have been piling up ever since.
As a fellow journalist rightly mentioned, Kareena is the first daughter in-law of Bengal and one and all present wanted to know about her association with Bengal and the Bengali tradition. Talking about Bengal, Kareena honestly confessed that she has yet not been able to get very well acquainted with its culture though she adores Bengal for the fact that people here are so particular about their traditions and that the greatest of literary geniuses have their roots in Bengal. Kareena also mentioned that she is also very proud about the fact that her mother-in-law has acted in so many of Satyajit Ray’s films as Satyajit Ray still defines cinema.
Talking about GTPM (Gori Tere Pyar Mein), the film’s lead pair said that it is wonderful family movie and people right from the age group of 15 to 55 can watch it and are sure to enjoy it thoroughly. Talking about the content of the film and also about director Punit Malhotra, Kareena stated that Punit will probably be the only director to stand out for his RomCom films after Karan Johar as under his direction the entire movie has been made beautifully. Kareena also elaborated upon her role in the movie saying that Dia is a social activist who strongly believes in the cause that she is pursuing and is very determined to make a difference to the world in her own small ways and this she could also relate to personally as even she believes in and wants to fight against anti-corruption. When compared with her roles in Jab We Met or for that matter Satyagrah, as it turns out, Kareena is in for a balancing act in GTPM.
Imran Khan’s wife Avantika will also be seen in a cameo in the movie and when asked about his feelings on sharing screen space with his real life love, Imran said that not just Avantika, in all of his movies some or the other friend of his has always had a cameo or some kind of small appearance as that ways the movie becomes all the more special to him and seeing friends on screen invariably make him happy and acts as a major feel good factor. Imran was also asked if he supports any social cause in real life to which he said, “Yes, I want to stand up against corruption and with that would also like to tell people that needs and demands of the young generation should also be given a patient hearing as their demand and opinions are not always frivolous”. Imran also feels that in order to maintain law and order as well as societal norms, the government cannot infringe upon civil liberties and he has been voicing his dissatisfaction about the same for quite some time now.
The movie has six songs and as director Punit revealed, all of them have been composed keeping the tastes of today’s listeners in mind. Well, as far as the reviews of the album are concerned, apart from ‘Dil Duffer’, no other song really seems to be making a place in the hearts and minds of the listeners.
Gori Tere Pyar Mein with all its feel good factor, concern for the society and definitely great star cast is expected to finish well at the Box Office and we indeed hope that Punit Malhotra lives up to the expectations and stands out as a RomCom specialist.
