In a press meet, organized by creative agency Sixth Sense at the Press Club, Kolkata it was announced that Teatro! – Stage Your Story will take place on December 1, 2013 from 4.00 P.M in the evening, at Gyan Mancha, Pretoria Street, Kolkata. During the course of this festival, five shortlisted amateur drama teams will stage their productions before the audiences and the respected panel of judges has renowned theatre stalwarts like Ms Sudipa Basu, Mr. Biplab Dasgupta and Mr. Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, who is also operating as the principal aid to Ms.Priyam Dasgupta regarding this project.
Gaurav Pandey, whose debut directorial venture ‘Sukno Lanka’ starring Mithun Chakraborty had received critical appreciations at the national level and is ready with his forthcoming film ‘Hanuman.Com’, which features Prosenjit Chatterjee is also a part of this wonderful initiative.
Apart from school children, college students and professionals from various disciplines, The Hope Foundation has also collaborated with Teatro reaffirming its faith and belief in social equality for performing arts. The Hope Foundation is a NGO, which is tediously working towards the cultural cum educative welfare of deprived street children. A drama team of The Hope Foundation, which consists of such unprivileged street children, will also participate in Teatro! 2013.
Five theatre teams have been shortlisted from the Thirty-Five drama scripts that were submitted to the screening committee. Each play must be staged within the time duration of 15-20 minutes to the maximum. The team which will be adjudged as the highest scorer of the competition will get a prize money of Rs. 5,000/- along with a certificate of appreciation from the organizers of Teotro! 2013. The organizers are ready to provide necessary light, sound and the other stage equipment, which are essential for staging a production, if needed by the participating teams (the teams are free to help their own causes though). However, the organizers have committed to provide all the necessary aids to the team from The Hope Foundation. It was announced by Mr. Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, that he will also stage a special performance on the December 1, 2013 evening at the Gyan Mancha in order to make the Theatre Festival of Teatro! 2013 more special and memorable.
Tollywood filmmaker Gaurav Pandey said that he is always keen to lend his unconditional support towards the GEN NEXT activities as the future of our culture lies in the hands of youths as they will control the scenario after the due course of time. So, if they are properly motivated to take part in such positive cultural activities, which are an integral part of Bengali heritage then such projects must always be supported and welcomed by the senior cultural activists.
