Over the years, monsoon at Bollywood have been dominated by male oriented sagas. However it would be different in 2014, what with as many as three female centric films with A-league names arriving one after another. The ladies in question are Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Rani Mukerji, each of whom would be arriving with an author backed role.
The films in question are FINDING FANNY, MARY KOM and MARDAANI, all of which arrive one after another in the month of July. It is quite interesting since the trend has been opposite so far.
Early this year, monsoon releases were films like BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, POLICEGIRI and D-DAY. Before that it was ROWDY RATHORE, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR and SHANGHAI in 2012 while a year before that, the films to hit the screens were SINGHAM, DELHI BELLY, BBUDDAH… HOGA TERRA BAAP and MURDER 2. Each of these films had a leading man driving the show with women having little or no role to play.
The story is going to be different though in 2014. Both MARY KOM and MARDAANI are hard hitting affairs with Priyanka playing a boxer and Rani turning into a dare devil cop. As for Deepika, she is a part of an ensemble affair though considering her current box office status; one can well expect her to be pretty much on the forefront.
Interestingly, the only other major film which is confirmed for release around these three films is none other than KICK. With Salman Khan as the ‘baap’ of all superstars around, it would be one feminine challenge that he would be more than willing to accept in the coming time.
