The Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival and Competition 2013 was presented by Siddha group in association with Bickram Ghosh. The concert started with performances by Adam Del Monte, Salil Bhatt and Himanshu Mahant. The festival brought in some of the biggest names from the world of classical guitar over a span of four long days through ten concerts.
The people of the city who are known for their rich cultural tastes got a chance to be a part of not only soul stirring music but also great performances by the great maestros. Some of the renowned international artists taking part in this festival included Denis Azabagick from Bosnia, Adam Del Monte from USA, Johannes Moller from Sweden, Bobby Rootveld from Netherlands, Andras Csaki from Hungary, Sanna Van Elst from Netherlands and Lars de Rjic from Netherlands. Amyt Dutta and Rahul Guha Roy were the Indian guitarists who performed at this festival.
The festival was hosted by the Calcutta Classical Guitar Society and this was the fourth year of this guitar festival in the city. This festival is one of its kinds and is the only one to be hosted in the country. This is also the biggest guitar festival in the Asian continent. The festival took place at Indian Council for Cultural Relations from 19th to 22nd December. Eight major concerts, two lunch concerts, public master classes, private master classes and a competition with INR 12000 as the prize amount comprised the events of the four days. Representation came from countries like Vietnam, France, Germany, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Thailand.
Siddha Group plans to continue with this endeavor in future so that the music lovers can experience soul stirring music sitting in Kolkata itself.
