Aamir Khan in KolkataThe 2014 Appejay Kolkata Literary Festival (AKLF) kick started with a bang with the presence of eminent Bollywood actor Aamir Khan in Kolkata. The actor’s film Dhoom 3 has been ruling the box office since its release on December 20, 2013. The actor was in town to inaugurate the literary festival which will coincide with the 125th birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Speaking on the occasion, the actor said “I would not have become an actor had it not been for the advice given by my great grand uncle, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. His philosophy of doing what the heart says has inspired me and touched me immensely. I also recall that my uncle, producer Nasir Hussain joined the film industry despite the protests from the family”. The actor also revealed that one of his super hit films 3 Idiots also had the theme of following the dictates of the heart. “I am immensely grateful that my uncle and then my father actually did what their heart wanted. They joined films and then I also joined films. Had they not listened to the dictates of their heart, I might have landed somewhere else in some other profession. Hence my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad” said Aamir Khan.

The actor also narrated how his uncle Nasir Hussain had to face oppositions from the family when he wanted to be a writer. The family went against him. It was during that time that he met Azad and on his advice followed his heart in doing the things that he likes.

The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival which kick started on a high with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan in Kolkata to inaugurate the same will run till January 13, 2014.
