Unicorns Dance Company ‘s Re-incarnation 3 presented “Onno Agomoni” a contemporary dance production based on invoking the power of a woman at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium,ICCR recently
Manu, the great lawgiver, said long ago, ‘where women are honored there resides the Gods’. Women are, thus befittingly called ‘Ardhangini’ (better half). They were given not only importance but equal position with men. And this is how it was at the inception of Indian civilization.
But…We live in a world full of changes. We live in a world where we do worship the woman as Durga, but do we really give regards to her?
The concept of “Agomoni” is no more to usher the supreme power of Goddess Durga… In the ruthless patriarchal society she is just a “Nirbhaya”. Is this what we wanted? In a society where woman molestation has become second nature, we use the myth of Durga to raise question. In this supposedly modernized world, if the approach to “Agomoni” has to be changed, can’t it be an “onno Agomoni” ?
The dance drama was conceptualized , choreographed and directed by Sourav Mondal and actress Moubani Sorcar perform as Durga.
There was another classical dance presentation which saw a fusion of Kathakali, Odissi and Manipuri dance forms performed by Kalmandalam. Goutam, Arnab Bandyopadhyay and Suman Sarawgi left the audience spellbound with their performances.
Apart from this painter Eleena Banik, TV actress Sneha Chatterjee and other celebrities also graced the occasion with their presence.
