What better setting than the East Bengal-Mohun Bagan match to announce the launch of the New Bengali Movie Lorai (The fight for survival) featuring Prasenjit Chatterjee. The film will be directed by Parambrata Chatterjee and is based on the life of a football coach. The film’s formal announcement took place at Yuva Bharati Kridangan in the presence of Parambrata Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee.
“I was fully engrossed when Parambrata narrated the story to me. The character has various shades and this appealed to me as an actor. I play the role of a football coach who has gone through various trials and tribulations in life. He is assigned to build a football team in a village. The story then takes various twists and turns” said Prasenjit Chatterjee. The actor has been increasing his workout sessions as he has to look credible in the role of the football coach. His son (who plays football quite well as informed by Prasenjit himself) has also been giving important inputs in preparing him for this role.
The film is about Sebastian Paes, who is a yesteryear Anglo Indian footballer at the Kolkata Football League. He was forced into premature retirement because of his untimely and deadly injury. His life is wasted in failure and his wife and daughter have left him. At this juncture he receives a new assignment where he is sent to a remote village to train young villagers and make a football team. Paes discovers a new India and also re-invents and rediscovers himself.
“Since this is a film on football, the idea came to me that I must do the announcement of this film at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan, the temple of football in the city. This film will be an awareness creating film as most people feel that cricket is the only financially solvent game. However if we delve deeper there are many parts in the country where football is even more important than cricket. Football has been kept in the backdrop and the ups and downs in the life of the characters have been shown in this movie” said director-actor Parambrata Chatterjee.
The film is to be shot extensively in Kolkata and Bolpur. Arjun Chakraborty, Payel Sarkar, Kharaj Mukherjee and Kanchan Mallick will be seen in important roles in the film. The music in this film will be scored by Indradip Dasgupta.
