The news of Dibakar Banerjee’s new Bollywood Film ‘Detective Bomkesh Bakshi’ being shot in the city has been doing the rounds for quite some time now with the entertainment sections of popular news dailies flooding the cinema lovers with candid shots of the crew members, especially that of the new Bomkesh in town, Sushant Singh Rajput. Sporting a thorough Bangali babu look, the Bollywood actor has been spotted time and again in trams, in the premises of the Presidency University and on the streets of the former Office Pada of Kolkata (Dharmatala).
Sushant has not only been sporting a moustache for the very Bomkesh and very Bangali look but has also been managing the dhoti quite well as that is the very essential element of the Bomkesh look who has been shown as a fresh college graduate of 1942 in this new Hindi Film.
Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s popular detective series Bomkesh Bakshi has seen many a handsome faces over the years, the most notable ones being Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Bengal’s new favorite, Tollywood actor Abir Chatterjee and now Bollywood’s rising star Sushant Singh Rajput. These three men, along with Rajit Kapoor who had played the detective in Doordarshan’s Tele Series have an aura about themselves and intelligent looks too and this is what has always helped in immortalizing Bomkesh with all the onscreen adaptations. The most interesting part however is, while Uttam Kumar, Rajit Kapoor and Abir have played the same sleuth in different time periods and different genres, their identities and looks have never overlapped and now the challenge of presenting the same old stories in a new avatar lies with director Dibakar Banerjee.
The Kai Po Che star Sushant Singh Rajput is also putting in his best to get into the skin of the character and for the time being is even known to have embraced the Bengali way of Life. With Sushant’s acting skills as a plus, a film on one of Bengal’s most shrewd and adored sleuths has the least chances of slipping at the box office and the producers Yash Raj films and Dibakar Banerjee certainly have high hopes from the venture.
Moreover with the Hindi Bomkesh Bakshi shot in Kolkata, the movie has already created a set fan base and come December 2014, every Bengali will be seen rushing to the theaters to see Bomkesh’s new avatar. Well, just a little reminder, Tollywood actor Abir Chatterjee is soon to start shooting for the new Feluda….
