One of the most sensational music awards that all Kolkata musicians look forward to is the Mirchi Music Awards. The Award function which is an annual Radio Mirchi presentation is a way of honoring musicians for their contribution to the world of music. The Mirchi Music Awards 2014 took place recently at Science City Auditorium in the presence of eminent personalities from both the film and the music industry.
The star attraction of this year’s award ceremony was the presence of Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit with the Gulaab Gang director. The ever so sexy Madhuri Dixit in a golden sari with a sleeveless blouse proved yet again why she is still the darling of many a hearts all over the country. Madhuri Dixit was in the city to promote her upcoming film and even performed to one of the songs of the film on stage and later spoke to the media about her new action packed Bollywood Film Gulaab Gang. The film is basically about women empowerment and it has a female antagonist and protagonist. The film is scheduled to release on March 7.
The star anchors of the show were Tollywood Heroes Parambrata Chatterjee and Saswata Chatterjee who entertained the audience by coming on stage in the make-up of the most popular characters that they have played in films. It was Mir who took charge of the show after Param and Saswata and kept the audience informed and entertained. A medley of star studded performances kept the audience glued to their seats as one after the other, came on stage popular faces from film and television like Anupam Roy, Somlata, Akriti Kakkar, Shilajit, Babul Supriyo, Nusrat Jahan, Subhoshree, Barkha Bisht and such others.
The lifetime achievement award was given to Purna das Baul for his contribution to music, especially the Baul music. Srijato was awarded the best composer of the year for Goynar Baksho, while Jeet Ganguly bagged the award for the best music composition of the year for the film Boss. Arijit Singh and Anwesha won the awards for the male and female vocalist of the year for Mon Majhi Re (Boss) and Saradin ar Sararaat (Rupkotha Noy). Raja Narayan Deb won the award for the programmer of the year for C/O Sir.
In the Adhunik song category, Rupankar won the Adhunik male vocalist, Music composer and also the Adhunik male lyricist of the year. Dipanwita Chaudhuri was awarded with the Adhunik female vocalist of the year. Monomoy and Jayati received the awards for the Rabindrsangeet male and female vocalist of the year.
Radio Mirchi Music awards 2014 celebrated and honored music of all genres. It was indeed a musical evening that lived up to Radio Mirchi’s very powerful tag line “Music ko Mirchi Ka Selam”.
Along with all the wonderful awards and compliments that our city musicians received and the wonderful performances the audience got to see, seeing Madhuri Dixit Dance on stage was definitely the biggest take away of the show which will be synonymously remembered by all as the Madhuri Dixit Season of Radio Mirchi Music Awards.
