This week’s new releases, PURANI JEANS, KYA DILLI KYA LAHORE, ANGRY YOUNG MAN, KAHIN HAI MERA PYAAR and THE DIRTY MMS, have all been dominated by the Hollywood venture, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (released on Thursday), which may well see a first day record for a Hollywood film in India, aided by a holiday in most parts of India on 1st May.
Coming back to the Hindi films, very much as we had indicated in our weekly box-office report, it was a straight battle between Eros’ PURANI JEANS and the Vijay Raaz and Manu Rishi starrer KYA DILLI KYA LAHORE, for the top position, though the opening is nothing to write home about!
Meanwhile, last week was dominated by Kangana Ranaut’s REVOLVER RANI which netted 9-10 crore during its opening week from India, while Subhash Ghai’s KAANCHI was in the 4-5 crore range. The Rajshri venture SAMRAT & CO was much lower at around 2-2.5 crore.
Concluding with Arjun-Alia’s 2 STATES, the film maintained very well during the second outing, thus netting 85-86 crore in two weeks from India and may just sneak through to a super hit status, based on the worldwide run.
