Mahanayak Uttam Kumar may no longer be with us but he survives in the films he had acted in. He is one of the brightest stars to have entered the Indian cinema. Pianist Rajlakshmi Ghosh paid tribute to the Mahanayak by playing out tunes from some of his most famous films.
The event which took place at Palladian Lounge saw the presence of many important personalities like National Award winning director Sanjoy Nag, producer Satrajit Sen, director Manoj Michigan, independent film maker Debasish Sen Sharma and director duo Soumya and Supriyo.
Rajlakshmi cast magic with her tunes on the piano. The songs that she played from the Uttam Kumar starer films are as follows- “E sudhu gaaner din” (Pathe Holo Deri), “Amar swapne dekha Rajkonya” (Sagarika), “Tumi je amar” (Harano Sur), “Surya Dobar Pala” (Indrani), “Ei path Jodi na sesh hoye” (Saptapadi), “Mou bone aaj”(Dui Bhai), “Amar sakal rashe dhara” (Bikele Bhorer Phul), “Ei kothati mone rekho” (Chowringhee) and many more. She was excellently complimented by Saira Shah Halim’s narratives who in her unique way read out from a script masterly written by Devasish Sarkar. Arundhuti, the daughter of Rajlakshmi, who is a pianist in the making played the role of the emcee of the event and kept the audience duly engaged and informed in between her mother’s recitals.
Rajlakshmi surely mesmerized the audience with her great presentation of the songs featured on the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. The esteemed guests present enjoyed a great musical evening re-living the magical moments from Bengali cinema’s golden era.
