Strokes and Love Notes- a painting exhibition by Subhamay Basu was recently inaugurated at Abanindra Gllery, ICCR. The exhibition was inaugurated by Lopamudra Mitra, Sanchita Bhattacharya, Anindya, Tanmoy Bose and others.
The series of paintings that one will come across in the exhibition has no main characters or events. The works are simply based on relatable people and objects. The balance of line, color and volume is the basis of the paintings exhibited at the painting exhibition. Some of the paintings that can be found in this exhibition include Surrender, Boxed Love, Brittle Spring, Root, Reborn and others.
Subhamay Basu’s tryst with colors began at the tender age when he could hardly hold a crayon. He used to spend hours with colors which were a cause of discontent for his elders and also his parents. However due to family pressure he pursued formal education and even pursued degrees in Commerce. He gave up his passion for colors and began working as an accountant. However his passion got the better of him and he began learning graphic designing by giving up his job. The painter is in the fifteenth year of his career in graphic designing.
Speaking at the occasion, Subhamay Basu said “I have experimented with brushes, appliqué and many other painting techniques. Over the years, people, places kept on changing all around me. These changes affected me and had an impact on my own personality. I have dabbled with many styles only to realize that speed painting in the Neo expressionism style is what suits me best in painting. These changes along with the speed painting style are what I have portrayed in the paintings that you see at this painting exhibition”.
The exhibition will continue till the 8th of June.
