R. D. Burman, the man who brought great changes in Bollywood music recently was paid tribute on his 75th Birthday by Centrestage Entertainment at a gala musical event titled Platinum Pancham. The event saw some electrifying performances by eminent singers like Suresh Wadkar , Usha Utthup, Annwesha, Nachiketa, Rupankar, Saptak, Zinia, Ramesh Iyer, Kishore Sodha and Nitin Shankar at Science City. Along with the popular singers, gracing the occasion was Ramesh Iyer on guitar, Kishore Sodha on trumpet and Nitin Shankar on percussion who were also a part of R. D. Burman’s team when the genius was at his career’s best.
Suresh Wadkar said, “It feels great when you perform in memory of a great musical maestro like R.D.Burman on his platinum jubilee birth year celebration event in Kolkata. He was a great music director who is very close to heart. I even performed with Pancham da in Kolkata. Those were surely memorable days and I will cherish them all throughout my life.” Suresh Wadkar made his first rendition under R.D.Burman’s musical baton with Kudrat and then went on to offer hits after hit. He performed Aur Kya Ahde Wafa Hote Hai, Huzur Is Kadar Bhi Na with Nachiketa, Tumse Milke Aisa Laga Tumse Milke with Anwesha, Andar Bahar Bahar Andar followed by group song as Kitni Khubsurat Yeh Tasveer Hai and Hum Kisise Kam Nahin with Anwesha and Saptak.
Usha Utthup was another original voice from R.D.’s team. She made her entry with Bombay To Goa under Pancham da’s musical baton. She then went on delivering hits as I Love You (Hare Rama Hare Krishna ), Doston Se Pyar Kiya (Shaan),One Two Cha Cha Cha( Shalimar) and so on. She performed some of her ageless melodies of R.D.Burman at the event.
Ramesh Iyer an ace guitarist mesmerized the audience with his skillful conduct of the orchestra as well as his own power packed performance.
Platinum Pancham was surely a great musical evening for the music loving audience of Kolkata. With so many great artists performing together, it surely made for a fitting tribute to the great music director.
