Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana-Tell us something about your background.
Chirantan Banerjee– First of all let me tell you, I am from a musical family. You can say music is in my blood. But no one in my family ever has taken it as their soul profession though a lot of them were extremely talented. It started with my father and my sister. In spite of being really well trained classical singers they never pursued music professionally.
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bagaliana- What drew you to getting yourself trained in music?
Chirantan Banerjee– As music is a part of my family, vocal training came to me very naturally right from my childhood. I got trained by my father Mr Chandan Banerjee and my sister Chandrani Mukhopadhyay. Later on I started taking lessons in Indian Classical Music from my guruji Pt. Mohanlal Mishra ji and his able son Deepak Mishra ji from Benaras Gharana .
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- How has Zee Bangla’s Saregamapa changed your life?
Chirantan Banerjee– Ohhh it did and also in a great way! My vision for music from a professional angle developed a lot in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa . Being with Kumar Sanu ji, Alka Yagnik mam , Pritam Chakraborty , Shantanu Moitra sir was an experience in itself . Their tips helped me a lot to be a better singer and develop myself as a playback singer. And yes being in the finals made my life easy as I did around 450+ stage shows across India in this span of 6 years.
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- Who is your inspiration in music?
Chirantan Banerjee– I always wanted to become a versatile singer right from my childhood days and I have groomed myself accordingly. For that reason I draw a lot of inspiration from Shankar Mahadevan ji and Sonu Nigaam ji .
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- Your debut album Shades of Life has been the bestseller on Itunes for three consecutive months among all Asian albums. When do we get to hear your next Hindi or Bengali album?
Chirantan Banerjee– I am focusing on feature films right now. I want to make a mark in the industry as a playback artist as well as a music director. Cutting an album is not in the cards right now.

Chirantan Banerjee-I will soon be signing two more films as a composer. Keeping my fingers crossed! Few of the other projects are also in pipeline.
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- You are turning music director with Commonism. Tell us something about the music of the film?
Chirantan Banerjee– This film is on transgenders and the heinous way in which the society looks at them. The film itself will be a revolution as my perception goes. Directing music for this film was not easy as it has a lot of shades to portray. But it is a great experience and I am enjoying a lot while scoring for the same .The members of my band VersAgile assisted me in arranging and composing tracks for this movie. Moreover VersAgile is also doing the Back Ground Score of the movie.
