Book on Life of Noti Binodini ‘Binodini Rachanasamagra’ now Available at Starmark



Binodini Dasi is a legend in her own right. She was tutored and lovingly guided by Girish Chandra Ghosh. She married at 24 and brought the end to her career on stage. However her happiness was short lived with the passing away of her husband and daughter. She therefore switched to a new sphere of creativity- writing. Kolkata’s largest bookstore chain Starmark hosted in association with Patra Bharati, the launch of Binodini Rachanasamagra at the South City Mall outlet. Edited by Devajit Bandopadhyay, a well known researcher-performer on Bengali theatre songs, Binodini Rachanasamagra is a compilation of writings on and by Binodini Dasi also known as Noti Binodini with rare photographs, portraits and interesting pieces of information relating to her life. The book was launched by eminent actress Madhabi Mukherjee, Riddhi Bandopadhyay, Soumendu Roy, Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee and Tridib Chattopadhyay.


Speaking at the occasion, Madhabi Mukherjee said “This is a great effort by Devajit to bring to life the contribution of many artists in the field of arts and entertainment. Many of them have been forgotten. Efforts of this kind will help in remembering such important personalities and also enable one to value their contribution. Moreover I have read Devajit’s writings before and he writes excellently. I think this will be another of his masterpieces”.


Eminent cinematographer Soumendu Roy well known for his works with Satyajit Ray was also present on the occasion of the book launch. He said “I personally know Riddhi and Devajit for many years now. I also was present at their marriage. I am aware of the dedication that Devajit has and it is no surprise for me to see him do such an extensive research on Binodini Dasi. I look forward to reading the book”.


Devajit Bandopadhyay recited some poems written by Binodini Dasi on the occasion. His wife Riddhi Bandopadhyay sang a song written by Binodini Dasi and regaled the audience.

Binodini Rachanasamagra is priced at Rs. 500 and is a must buy for the theatre loving enthusiasts. This is surely a must have.
