A Salman Khan movie must always be watched in a single screen theatre. The reason behind this is apart from watching the film you also become a part of the party. Kick, which gathered much hype released on Friday with much fanfare all over the country. Salman Khan aka Sallu Bhai’s Eid gift for the audience has been superbly received and has already collected over 83 Crores in mere 3 days since its release.
The film is about Devi Lal Singh who needs a “Kick” in everything that he does. Without this very Kick, his life becomes boring and he moves on to the next thing. Despite being a civil engineer, he does not work as he did not get the kick. Kick as is defined by his lady love Shaina is an adrenaline rush. Devi Lal Singh aka Devil gets the Kick when he meets Shaina, a psychiatrist by profession. He goes out of his way to impress her. Things however take a turn when he goes to her father to ask for her hand in marriage. Going by his reputation of leaving jobs, going to jail and beating people- the girl’s father decides to make him a “Ghar Jamai”. This actually Kicks the ego and he resorts to doing work which will give him the Kick. He steals money only to help the people. What happens next? Does he marry Shaina? The film answers them all.
Sajid Nadiadwala has banked on the superstardom of Salman Khan for his debut Hindi film as a director. And man he has gambled on the right horse! When you have Salman Khan as the lead, even the most preposterous things can be made to look and sound feasible. Despite the film being a remake of the Telegu film Kick there is a certain amount of Salman-ness in the film which makes it different from the original Telegu film. With Chetan Bhagat handling the scripting department, there is certain freshness to the film too.
Acting by the cast further adds to the gloss of this Salman Khan rendezvous. Salman Khan despite his typical Sallu Bhai attitude has actually put in an honest effort into acting and played the role with much gusto. He proves yet again why he has been the king of hearts of millions of people for the past twenty five years. A major source of disappointment though was the lack of a good typical Salman Khan shirtless scene flaunting that chiseled body. A blink and you miss scene hardly could meet the hunger of the ogling fans.
Jacqueline Fernandez needs to brush up her acting skills. If we ignore her acting capabilities, she looked glamorous and sexy. And the mean moves in the Jumme ki raat song in that short, red lace dress were just so apt for a Salman Khan movie. Many male audiences surely got a Kick from her moves and must have said “Mashallah”.
Randeep Hooda after Highway again impresses us with his acting. Mithun Chakraborty, Archana Puran Singh and Saurabh Shukla give us comic relief in this intensely action film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a revelation in the film. Who would have thought that the man who has impressed us with his composed acting is even capable of such different kind of an act with fast speech and that maniacal laughter? It will surely give you the creeps or maybe even the Kick.
Despite many loopholes here and there, Salman Khan’s Kick is an entertainer and is far better than the latest headaches that Bollywood was serving. This Headache (as is called by Salman’s lady love in the film) is actually entertaining (and more so for the Salman Khan fans). A onetime watch for the non-Salman fans and a watch till you tire for the fans, Kick is surely making its way to kick all past records and create a new Crore Club for itself.
