Mahurat of the upcoming Bengali film Jagaran took place at Aloke Pramanik Kutir at Nepalganje. Present at the occasion were director Kankan Bhattacharjee, Rajkamal, Meghna Halder and Rajatava Datta.
In a dhoti and Punjabi, with a thick black rimmed glass, actor Rajatava Datta will be seen in an extremely different avatar in the film. “I play the role of Chandrakanta Chatterjee who is the teacher of a village school. He is an idealist who believes in setting up a society which was thought of by the freedom fighters. However his daughter gets raped and what happens next is what the film will tell” said the actor.
“I play the role of Jyoti, who is a doctor by profession. This is the first time that I am playing the role of a doctor. The films I have done till now have given me scope for acting. This film will also provide me with a platform to act. This is my first film with Kankan da. I am also happy that I will be getting to share screen space with so many talented and veteran actors and actresses in the film” said actress Meghna Halder.
Bangladeshi actor Rajkamal plays the role of Subhash, who is a university student. He becomes a professional killer due to the pressures of politics. However he undergoes a change due to the village teacher. College Campus by Purnendu Halder is his first Bengali film, which will be releasing soon.
The music of the film is by Akash and there will be about five songs in the film. Soumitra Chatterjee as Surjakanta, Anup Chatterjee as Khude, Anuradha Roy, Rita Kairal, Tulika Basu, Biswajit Chakraborty, Master Baibhab, Arun Mukherjee will be seen in pivotal roles in the film. The film will be shot mainly in Kolkata. Some outdoor shoot will take place in Digha, Shantiniketan and Darjeeling.
The film will release by the end of this year.
