Park Street Rape Case Victim Attends the Launch of Upcoming Bengali Film ‘Park Street’

Rapes have become a frequent phenomenon in Bengal as also in the other parts of the country. The Park Street rape incident which caused much sensation has become the topic of an upcoming Bengali film Park Street. The press meet of this upcoming film took place at YMCA in the presence of producer Debjani Roy, director Partha Mukherjee, Pulokita, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Swantana Basu and Suzette Jordan (The rape victim on whose life the film has been made).

Speaking at the occasion, the director said “No woman must ever become a victim of rape. This is one of the most heinous crimes that can be committed against any woman. This is the aspect that we have tried to show in this film. We faced a lot of trouble with the Censor Board due to the name of the film too. Had the name of the film been Camac Street or Bentick Street, there would not have been any trouble. The problem that we faced initially was with the name of the film. Another trouble started with the use of the word rape. According to the Censor Board, the word usage will have a negative impact on the minds of the children. However we cleared all these issues and we got the green signal from the Censor Board finally”.
