The saying may be dedicated to the Rani of Jhansi who gave her life to protect her kingdom from the clutches of the British rule but these lines reverberated in Kolkata when a different Rani set foot in the city to promote her upcoming Bollywood film Mardaani. And as you may have already guessed, Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji was in the city for the promotion of Mardaani.
The actress was in the city for a whirlwind promotion of the film. She visited St. Xavier’s College after which she headed straight to the Kalighat Temple. She offered a Puja at the temple and prayed for the success of her upcoming film.
Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, this New Hindi film is about a female cop who is investigating the kidnapping of a teenage girl. The investigation eventually leads to the unraveling of human trafficking in the country.
Speaking with the press, the actress said “I play Shivani Shivaji Roy in the film, who is a tough cop in the film”. The actress also highlighted on the fact that women must be taught self defense techniques so that they can fight against the oppressors. The self defense must be taught at the school and college levels so that the girls can become self reliant and defend themselves from the people taunting them.
Tollywood Bengali Actor Jisshu Sengupta plays the role of Dr. Bikram Roy in the film and with this movie makes his entry into Bollywood. Tahir Bhasin, Priyanka Sharma, Vikrant Koul will be seen playing pivotal roles in this upcoming Bollywood flick.
The film is eyeing for a 22nd August release.
