The Tagore Institute of Natural Sciences and Philosophy (TCNSP) will be organizing a daylong conference on “Natural sciences and philosophy- a singular reality?” at the Bose Institute. Professor Bikash Sinha, Chairman of TCNSP presided over the press meeting held at The Bengal Club.
Seminar on Art and Science Fusion Press Meet
Speaking with the media personnel, he said “It is very saddening to see that there is a growing gap between the two streams- art and science. There is a common misconception in recent times that a person efficient in the sciences cannot excel in arts and vice-versa. This was not so during the times of Rabindranath Tagore or Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. Rabindranath’s song “Akash Bhora surjo tara; Biswa bhora pran” speaks of the living cosmos. Similarly Jagadish Chandra Bose was a great patron of the arts. It is in recent times that there is such a glaring gap between the two streams. With the help of the daylong seminar, we will be highlighting that the two streams are interlinked”. The Professor also added that it is a pity to see that the two streams have never been brought together. Nobody understands that the mystery of science provides a dimension to arts whereas the arts enhance the scientific temper.
A book entitled Space, Time and the Universe is also being composed and is on its way to completion.
The daylong seminar will feature speakers like Professor Dipak Ghosh, actor Soumitra Chatterjee, Professor Suranjan Das, Professor Sushanta Dattagupta, Professor Andre Beteille and Dr. Jurgen Schukraft. The speakers will be speaking on topics like pursuit of two cultures i.e. art and science, Rabindranath and Jagadish Chandra and other such topics at the daylong event.
The daylong seminar will take place on 14th October 2014.
