Kolkata girl Sayani Palit won the Benadryl Big Golden Voice Season 2 title in Mumbai defeating 91,000 participants from all over India to win this musical title.
The twenty five year old singer was selected by the radio station in the first round of phone auditions. The short listing of the candidates was done by eminent musicians like Haimanti Shukla, Tony Bose and Tarun Bhattacharya. She was selected with four other contestants. She won the contest from Kolkata by bulk voting from the audience. Out of 35 contestants – who were selected from across 45 Big FM stations – only 12 were selected by music director Shankar Mahadevan.
After delivering great performances in Mumbai, Sayani was declared the champion of the season by judges Shankar Mahadevan and Bhavna Samaya, leaving behind Delhi’s Digvijay Singh and Mumbai’s Kanika Joshi. Shankar Mahadevan said, “Even if she didn’t win the show, I would have worked with her on an upcoming Bollywood project. When she was performing in the finale it felt like she was singing in a concert, not a reality show, which is indeed great.”
Sayani, who has recorded playbacks for Bengali films like Hanuman.com, Proloy, Pendulum, Singur and others started her classical taleem from the time when she was 4 and is still continuing her tutelage under guru Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Padma Bhushan Girija Devi. She has recently launched a self composed Hindi contemporary album, Khwahishian. The album is a melodic saga depicting hues of romance through songs of different genres like Indipop, Folk, Ghaazal, Experimental & others and celebrates the spirit of independent musicians across the country. The album not only sold more than 500 copies but was also downloaded hugely from artistaloud.com and iTunes.com.
Congratulations Sayani on your achievement!!!
