From Jatras to Kirtans to Jazz, Upcoming Bengali Film Parapaar Music Presents a Wholesome Blend of Melodies



The music launch of the upcoming Bengali film Parapaar took place at ICCR. Present at the music launch were director Sanjoy Nag, Paoli Dam, Rituparna Sengupta, music director duo Sourendro –Soumyojit, Kaushiki Chakrabarty and others.


The main attraction of the music of this film Parapaar is the usage of various genres of music to lift the mood of the film. From Jatras to Kirtans to Jazz to strings, the music directors have utilized different genres to bring different flavors to the music of this soon to be released film. Asha Bhonsle, Kaushiki Chakrabarty, Papon Mahanta, Subhamita Banerjee, Chandrani Banerjee, Ashtam Mandal and Rituparna Sengupta have lent their voices to the songs in the film.


The songs in the film have been written by Srijato. The recording of the songs in the film have been done in the traditional acoustic forms to give the special warmth to the songs. One of the reputed sound designers of India, K J Singh who is also associated with most of the works of A. R. Rahman has designed Asha Bhonsle’s rendition for this film. Apart from K J Singh, Gautam Basu, Ananjan Chakraborty, Dipankar Chaki and Anirban Sengupta have designed the sound for this film.


Sanjoy Nag while speaking with Sholoana Bangaliana Correspondent narrated how his late friend Rituparno Ghosh helped him with the selection of Rituparna Sengupta for Parapaar. “I was actually discussing the script with him and he suddenly gave a call to Rituparna and asked her to come and act in the film. It was an instant decision” said Sanjoy Nag. The director also added that the selection of the cast was made according to the needs of the script and not only for casting lead actors and actresses in his films.


The story of the film Parapaar is about Rudranath Chatterjee who comes back to his family consisting of his wife Damini and their two children after serving a jail sentence. He was alleged for committing the heinous crime of rape. What happens when he comes back home? How does his family react to his homecoming? All these questions are answered by the film.

Sanjoy Nag also added that he read the novel by Moti Nandy way back in 1998. On the first reading itself, he found cinematic elements in the film. This actually inspired him to make the film.

Made under the banner of Purti Entertainment Private Limited, the film has Paoli Dam, Ahmed Rubel, Bratya Basu, Rituparna Sengupta in pivotal roles.

The film is slated for release soon.
