A journalist, who later turned to the art of directing films, made it big in the industry with his quirky films that are not only rich in content but full of humor too. And this is none other than Director Aniket Chattopadhyay who in the midst of the celebrations of the success of his recent hit Janla Die Bou Palalo made a quick trip to Singapore for the premiere of his New Bengali Film film Room No. 103 at the Darpan Film Festival. Post his return from Singapore, Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent Priyanka Dutta caught up with the director to know more about his experience at the festival.

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana BangalianaCongratulations on the premiere of your film at the prestigious Darpan film festival! What was audience reaction like?

Aniket Chattopadhyay– Thank You. Oh!! It was just wonderful. The audience feedback has been very positive and I am very glad about it. Not that I would mind had I got negative feedback. Many audiences were shocked initially and they gave their reaction at a later stage. But majority of them liked the film.

Can you tell us something about the film?

The story of the film is about a hotel named Raat Din. Rudra Chatterjee is the manager of the hotel who narrates four stories in the course of the film. The stories are about four boarders who come to the hotel. The film has thriller elements which will appeal to many audiences. The manager of the hotel does not allot the room number 103 to all people. He closely scrutinizes people and only then allots the room.

Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee is the protagonist in your film; was he the first choice for the lead role, that of the manager?

Yes, he was the first choice. He can emote extremely well with his eyes and little dialogues. He was definitely the first choice for this role.

What will you say about the music in this film?

The background music and the songs have been composed by Mayukh Bhaumik. There are two songs in the film; one song is “Prano Bhorie” and the other is “Amar sokol nie bose ache”. He has done an extremely good job in this film.

Why did the film premiere at the film festival in Singapore and not in Kolkata?

This was actually the decision of the producer to release the film internationally before it releases in Kolkata. Hence the delay in releasing the film in the city.

The film is expected to release in Kolkata by the end of February 2015.

Director Aniket Chattopadhyay has made the Bengali Film Industry proud with his unique content presentations and we are confident that post its release, the New Bengali Film Room No 103 will be received as wonderfully in Kolkata as it was in Singapore.
