CRY launches ‘Project Unlearn’ on Children’s Day; Another Step towards Elimination of Child Labor

Project Unlearn which is a nationwide campaign of CRY aimed at getting the children working as laborers back to schools was launched on Children’s Day. Eminent actress- director Aparna Sen was present on the occasion to support this initiative of CRY.

The campaign will help about 28, 588 children working as child labors to get back to the schools and work towards a brighter future. It has been estimated that about 10.1 million children work in factories, dhabas, workshops and other such places and this project will try to make a difference in the lives of as many of these children as possible.

Atindranath Das, Regional Director (East) CRY – Child Rights and You said, “It will seem shocking to many that such a huge number of children are engaged in such labor. When they should have been going to the classrooms, they have to work. They are also victims of abuse and exploitation too. With the help of this project, we will be able to spread awareness among the people about this issue. We are hopeful that the individuals will extend the support to the people and unlearn the skills which rob them from their childhood”.

Eminent actress Aparna Sen who was also present at the occasion said “We must all learn to take care of our children. They are not aware of the ways of the world. We must all do out bit in presenting to them a better and brighter world. They learn through examples and if you are unkind to them, you are responsible for making them ruthless citizens”.

Around 40 children from the nearby areas of several CRY supported NGOs took the centre stage and the children participated in a colorful and fun-filled workshop on T-Shirt painting. Two upcoming artists, Samir Sarkar and Anjan Modak facilitated the workshop.
