The second edition of the youth theatre competition Vodafone Odeon First Stage was held at G. D. Birla Sabhagar. The youth theater competition was won by Saifee Hall with their play “The Internet has touched us all”. The first runner up at the event was Ashutosh College with their play “Ontorjaal” and the second runners up title went to Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management for the play “Facebook and us”. This youth festival was held along with the Vodafone Odeon Theater Festival.

Vodafone has been organizing this annual theater festival in the city for a decade now. This platform has been a great way of promoting theatre and also giving the audience a chance to witness the performances of the finest local and national theatrical productions.

With the help of this youth theatre festival, the youth of the city get a chance to showcase their talents to a broader audience too. Participating schools and colleges included Lady Brabourne College, Techno India College, Narula College, Ashutosh College, Hazra Law College, St Paul College, CIEM College, Jogesh Chandra College, Sudhir Chandra Swe Degree Eng College, Dream Institute of Technology, New Alipur College, PCMM College, Shivnath Sastri College, Heramba Chandra College, Behala Pannasree College, Sursana College and Deshbandhu College.

The performances were judged by an eminent jury consisting of theater stalwarts like Satinath Mukhopadhyay, Jagannath Bose, Raja Bhattacharya and Dulal Lahiri. The contestants were judged on the basis of discipline, dramatizing/acting, scripting, concept and overall impact.

Initiatives of this kind are always welcome and we hope that Vodafone continues with this good job in future too.
