“6262”: A Painting Exhibition showcasing Tagore’s Impact on the Unknown Land of Lithuania

The one-day photography exhibition “6262” Impressions from Lithuania, was inaugurated at Jhal Farezi restaurant by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, H.E. Mr. Laimonas Talat Kelpsa and Mrs. Madhu Neotia. A host of celebrities from Kolkata like Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and Gargi Roy Chowdhury also graced the occasion.

The exhibition consists of thirty photographs. This is one of the most incredible exhibitions which has been organized for the first time ever in Kolkata. The exhibition focuses on India’s cultural impacts on Lithuania. This exhibition also showcases the impact of Rabindanath Tagore on Lithuania’s struggle for freedom.

The title of the exhibition “6262” signifies the distance in kilometers between Lithuania and Shantiniketan. The collection of photographs was based on the adventurous journey undertaken by Kounteya Sinha over six days on the road covering 1,110 kilometers in Lithuania. The exhibition showcased thirty photographs that not only revealed Lithuania’s connection to India and Tagore but also highlighted the country in a new way.

The exhibition was a great eye opener for many of the people in the city. To think of the impact that India and Tagore made on a distant county is amazing and gave something to be proud of in the long run.
