Pankaj Mullick Music and Art Foundation recently staged the dramatic adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s poem Pujarini at Satyajit Ray Auditorium. Pujarini marked the beginning of the 110 th birth anniversary year celebration of the legendary music composer- singer Pankaj Kumar Mullick.
The production showcased high production values, songs, elocution, choral chants and was accompanied by special effects, dance and shadow-graphy. The script has been made by Rajib Gupta (Grand son of Mullick ), while the songs were performed by Jhinuk Gupta ( grand Daughter-in-law of Mullick). Haimanti Basu handled the choreography of the event.
The interesting and highlighting part of the performance was the poem Pujarini which was performed in the form of a song. The tune was set by Pankaj Mullick. Many will not be aware of the fact that Mullick was the only music composer who was given permission to set tune to Tagore’s lyrics and poems by Rabindranath Tagore himself.
Songs like Bhoy hote Tabo, Ashanti Aaj Hanlo, Ami Bhoy Korbona, Pran Bhoriye besides Pujarini composed by Pankaj Mullick were also performed by Jhinuk Gupta to portray the storyline at the event.
Apart from the staging of the poem Pujarini, the event also featured the re-launch of the official website on Pankaj Mullick. Alokananda Roy and veteran folk singer Amar Pal were also felicitated at the event.
