The former captain of Indian football team, Bhaichung Bhutia was recently present at Sanofi India’s Steps to Count held at The Park Hotel. The event was organized in a bid to raise awareness among the people on knee osteoarthritis. Present along with the footballer was Dr. M. S. Ghosh and Dr. Senthilnathan Mohanasundaram.
India has the second highest number of osteoarthritis patient base in the world. This consists of about fifteen million people, with women forming a huge chunk of this ratio of patients. It is also alarming to note that a huge number of youngsters are also becoming victims of this disease. Findings suggest that the wearing of high heels among the women is one of the prime conditions for the onset of this disease. Moreover Vitamin-D deficiency, rise in obesity among the people have also become issues for developing such ailments.
Speaking at the occasion ace footballer Bhaichung Bhutia said “It is very important not only for sports persons but also for the common people to maintain a healthy life. Sedentary lifestyle especially has taken a toll on the health of the people. One should take care of such issues and try and eat healthy and exercise so as to maintain good health. This will also reduce chances of developing such diseases”.
