Snippets from 4th Edition of Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2014; Team Srijit Mukherji Tops the List of Awardees

After its overwhelming success for the last three years, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM is back with the 4th edition of Mirchi Music Awards Bangla, Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2014 Powered by Idea (MMA Bangla). The prestigious award show in Bengal recognizes and celebrates the best in the Bengali music industry. With the greatest in the Bengali music industry acting as judges and sensational live acts the fourth edition of the annual music awards rocked.

More than 1500 songs which were released in the year 2014 were judged by a panel consisting of thirty two personalities from the music industry. This was done so that the most deserving and outstanding artists were presented with the awards in the various categories. The entire process of judging was held in secret ballot. This was handled by the renowned audit firm Ernst & Young. The songs were adjudged for total 23 award categories. Besides the regular awards categories in Film and Non-Film Bangla music, there was also the Mirchi Listeners’ Choice Awards for the Best Film Song and the Best Film Album.

A bevy of stars from the film and music industry walked the red carpet at the Mirchi Music Awards including the likes of Prosenjit Chatterji, Jeet Ganguly, Chiranjit, Babul Supriyo, Payel Sarkar, Gargi Roy Choudhury, Tanusree, Usha Utthup, Kabir Suman, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, Indraadip Das Gupta, Raghab Chatterjee Director Srijit Mukherjee, actors Indrashish Roy, Tota Roy Chaudhury, Locket Chatterji, singer Rupankar, Sidhu & his band Cactus, Haimanti Sukla, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Surajit, directors Sudeshna Roy, Nandita Ray and Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay, Rupam Islam, composer Joy Sarkar, and others.

The show was hosted by Abir Chatterji, Kanchan Mullick and Mir. The show was studded with outstanding performances by eminent singers Akriti Kakkar, Anupam Roy, Lagnajita, Prashmita Paul, Sayantika, actress Paoli Dam, Nachiketa Chakraborty and actor Soham.

Radio Mirchi honored veteran musician Jatileshwar Mukherjee with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to Bengali music.

Noted violinist Dilip Roy won “Special Jury’s choice for outstanding contribution to Bangla music”.

Runa Laila, the international face of Bangla music was felicitated as “Chiranabin Surasree” for her outstanding contribution to music not just in Bengal, but beyond borders. She also mesmerized the audience with her popular Bangla folk and Sufi numbers.

Jeet Ganguly was awarded “Royal Stag Make it Large award 2014”, for his outstanding contribution to both Hindi and Bengali music. He also made the audience sing to his tunes with his popular Hindi and Bangla numbers.

The biggest attraction of the night was the presence of the National Award winning actress Vidya Balan. Later she graced the stage with her charm. Prosenjit Chatterji, accompanied her on stage.

“Jaatishwar” was the film that swept all major awards this year bagging best album of the year, song of the year (“E Tumi Kemon Tumi”). Rupankar won the male vocalist of the year for “E Tumi Kemon Tumi” while Shreya Ghoshal won female vocalist of the year for “Bela Boye Jae” from ”Bunoh Haansh”. The veteran artist Kabir Suman won both the awards for best music composer (for “E Tumi Kemon Tumi”) and Lyricist of the year (for “Khudar Kasam Jaan” from “Jaatishwar”). “E Tumi Kemon Tumi” also won the Mirchi listeners’ choice award for best song while “Jaatishwar” was chosen by the listeners as the best album of the year.

Overall the Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2014 was a grand celebration of music.
