Rabindra Bharati University’s Department of Drama in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India will be organizing the 25th UGC International Conference and Theatre Festival. The subject is Shakespeare Reconsidered celebrating the 450th birth anniversary of the Bard. This is the first year of this international conference.

A press conference was organized to announce this conference. The press conference was attended by Prof. Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University, Shri Debdutta Roy, Acting Registrar, Rabindra Bharati University, Shri Subhabrata Singha Roy,Head of the Department of Drama, Rabindra Bharati University and Shri Santanu Das, Professor, Department of Drama, Rabindra Bharati University.

The four day event will feature conferences, exhibition on Shakespeare and the Bengali theatre and theatre festival based on the works of William Shakespeare. The conferences which will start from 11am will have eminent personalities from the field of theatre deliver special lectures. The elite list consists of Robert Gordon, Mohan Maharishi, Amitava Roy and Ashok Mukhopadhyay. Frorty eight delegates from different parts of India and also from countries like UK, Canada and USA will also participate in this conference.

Macbeth Question (directed by Santanu Bose), Fall of a King (directed by Palash Protim Mech) , Macbeth (Sudip Chakraborty) and Fagun Raater Goppo (Tarun Pradhan)are the plays which will be enacted during the theatre festival. The plays are of duration of one and a half hours. Bibhash Chakraborty will be present on the inaugural day of this conference.

The theatre festival will start on the 17th of March and continue till the 20th of March 2015 at the Jorasanko Thakurbari premises.
