Actress Kanchana Moitra who shot to fame after her performance in the film Bye Bye Bangkok (2011), will be soon seen in an important role in the upcoming Bengali thriller Sajarur Kanta. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent engaged the talented actress in an engaging conversation about her role and her shooting experiences. Excerpts from the conversation..
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- You play an important role in the upcoming Bengali Film Sajarur Kanta. Tell us something about the character that you play in the film.
Kanchana Moitra– I play the role of Subhra in the film. She is an actress in the theatre group where Deepa, the character played by Konkona Sen Sharma also acts. Deepa is her rival in the group and they both compete against each other for good roles. Deepa gets married and this opens up opportunities for Subhra. However politics begin within the group and what happens to Subhra at the end is very dramatic.
How was the shooting experience?
It was just fantastic. Saibal da is a good director and also a good human being. He is a director whom I have found after a long time to actually appreciate and say Thanks after a shot is good. Otherwise in recent times we just work like machines and the directors are more concerned with completing each scene. When I ask how the shot went, they just say that I have done it well. But that is not what I want. I want to know the actual thing. With Saibal da, I got scolded as well as appreciated. This feels great.
This is my first work with Mac Neill Media Pvt Ltd and I think that their choice of films is also good. My second film with this house is Aniket Chttopadhyay’s Tuski.
With such a great cast, there must have been great moments on the sets during shooting. Can you share with us some memorable shooting experiences?
There were many such incidents. I will relate one such incident. There was a certain scene where I was to play the role of Nandini from the play Roktokorobi. Deepa will not be playing the character and hence I got the chance. Now according to the demands of the script I had to act badly. But however much I tried, I was doing the role well. After much attempts I got it right. (laughs out loud) frankly this scene taught me how to act badly.
What expectations do you have from the film, given the fact that so many films on Byomkesh Bakshi have already been made?
Well, this is different from the other Byomkesh films as this does not have a young and energetic Byomkesh. This Byomkesh has the same personality but the person is reluctant to take up any case at the moment. Moreover with such a stellar cast, a tight script and great music, I have high expectations from the film and I hope the audiences will appreciate our humble effort.
The film is slated for release on the 20th of March and we wish the team of Sajarur Kanta all the best.
