Film maker and cinematographer Debjit Routh’s solo photography exhibition “Journey of lens” was recently inaugurated at Academy Of Fine Arts, New South B Gallery, Kolkata. Debabrata Chakrabarti, Kartikchandra Gangopadhyay, Madhu Sarkar were present at the inauguration of the solo photography exhibition.
Debjit Routh has a long experience of twenty seven years in the field of photography. The photographer has also the privilege of working with renowned Bengali film maker Tarun Majumdar. He has many telefilms like Kapurush, Akadosi and Bayragi to his credit. He has also shot ad films for Priya entertainment, Grihini and others.
“Photography is my passion. I may be involved in making telefilms or short films. But photography is something which has always stayed permanent at the back of my mind. This is the reason why I have travelled to villages and took such snaps of the people. This has taken some years to actually take such snaps” said photographer Debjit Routh.
Thirty pictures were on display in the exhibition. Old women and children form a major part of these black and white pictures. Speaking about this issue, the photographer said “This is simply because they are very innocent and I wanted to catch their innocence through my lens. I have also kept the pictures black and white so that one will think about what colors will go where. If I had showcased colored pictures, you would not have exercised the mind to think about the color scheme”. Debjit’s next target is to conduct a creative photography exhibition compiling both black and white and colored schemes.
The exhibition continued till the 20th of April. The photographs at the exhibition were also available for sale to interested art lovers.
