New Srijit Mukherji Film Nirbaak Press Conference
After gathering accolades for the wonderful shadowgraphy and the interesting trailers and promos Nirbaak finally spoke at a press conference. Well. The film did not speak, but the director and the cast did speak a lot on the film. The press conference of this Upcoming Bengali film took place in the presence of Sushmita Sen, Jisshu Sengupta, Ritwick Chakraborty, Neel Dutt, Srijit Mukherji and others.
Srijit Mukherji’s idea for this film Nirbaak came when he came across a picture of Salvador Dali at a museum. The painting by Dali had a tree in it and Srijit thought that the tree had life. The anthropomorphic surrealism in the painting attracted him so much that he began thinking about penning down something around that tree. Nature morphs into human beings and feels the same emotions like them. That formed the base of another story.
Speaking about his film, Srijit Mukherji said “I have challenged myself with this film. I have not used my biggest strengths in this film like dialogues, or songs. The usage of songs or for that instance music is minimal. Silence is more poignant in this film, as is suggested by the very title of the film. How can a tree communicate its feelings? How can a dog express its emotions? The language of cinema is very different in this film and the pace of the film is not fast like my other films. This will surprise many for sure”.
Jisshu Sengupta who has worked with Srijit for the second time (first being Jatishwar) was full of praises for the director. “Since our houses are quite nearby, I got a call one afternoon from Mr. Mukherji to come to his home. I went there and he narrated me this story. I was like, was he even thinking of making the film? And he said yes. And the journey began. Initially I was not sure which role will I be assigned with. I could be the tree also. You always expect the unexpected from Srijit. However on a personal note, after Rituparno Ghosh he is one man who has made great changes in my life and I am grateful to him for that” said Jisshu Sengupta with a broad smile.
Srijit also highlighted on the fact that Sushmita’s personality and the fact that she is so well read made him cast her in the film Nirbaak.
Neel Dutt who had watched the film around thirty times said “This is undoubtedly his best film. I have watched his other films too, but he surpasses himself in this film”.
Sushmita Sen who is also making her debut in the Bengali Film industry with this film was full of praises for the director Srijit and stated that he was the very reason for her to sign the film. “I had a great time shooting for Nirbaak. Working with such talented actors like Jisshu and Ritwick surely was a great experience for me” said the beautiful actress.
Saswata Chatterjee was the surprise guest in the press conference. On being introduced as Bob Biswas, the actor also wittily replied “See, Srijit is so jealous of Kaushik Ganguly’s Sobdo, that he made a film Nirbaak”. The actor’s statement made the whole hall erupt out in peals of laughter.
The film released today in theatres and Srijit Mukherji is already busy personally thanking each fan for a great review.
