Ray Retrospect Celebrating Satyajit Ray’s Birth Anniversary
“I always tell my daughter Alia who is also in acting to watch the films made by Satyajit Ray or else she will be a lot poorer. One has to consume the man and his art to actually understand many things about the craft of film making” said eminent Bollywood film maker Mahesh Bhatt at the second day of Goldenray held at Priya Cinemas.
Also present at the occasion were Madhabi Mukherjee, Barun Chanda and Dhritiman Chatterjee, all of whom had the privilege of working with the legendary director.
“Today is Manik da’s birthday and the heartwarming way in which his birthday is celebrated here is really great. But in the other parts of the country there are many people who are not aware of the works done by the master director” said Mahesh Bhatt.
Dhritiman Chatterjee who had acted in Ray’s Pratidwandi remembered Pratidwadi being released at Priya Cinemas in 1970. “For instance I was being interviewed once by a journalist and the person actually asked me what kind of films does Ray makes? I was aghast. Such is the level of knowledge about the great masters. Steps must be taken to increase the knowledge amongst the people. Only then can be pay tribute to their works” said Dhritiman Chatterjee.
“Earlier I used to feel bad that Manik da is no longer with us. But now I understand that he is always with us with his creations. A man is known by the works he does. And Manik da’s huge range of works has already made him immortal. Hence now I feel on his birthday that he is very much with us” said Madhabi Mukherjee.
The second day of Goldenray saw Ray’s “Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne” being shown to the audiences.
