“The biggest challenge as a film maker for me is to hold the attention of the television viewing audience. There is a tendency amongst the audiences to shift attention from one channel to the other if the content is not to their liking. For me, this is challenging. I want to captivate them with my film. I hope I am successful in the challenge that I took up with Ekta Bangali Bhooter Goppo” said director Indranil Roychowdhury. The director along with the cast was present at the press conference of the fourth venture of Zee Bangla Cinema Originals titled Ekti Bangali Bhooter Goppo.
Ekti Bangali Bhooter Goppo is the story of Amrita and Anirban Dutta who have been married for twelve long years in an unhappy and loveless marriage. Anirban spends his day drinking and day dreaming. He is the last heir of Dutta’s Business. Amrita has survived two miscarriages. She also runs a successful NGO along with her friend Aditi. She meets RJ Ronnie who pursues her romantically. Amrita harbors no such feelings. After her in-laws death she decides to move out to a new flat. Anirban starts suspecting her thinking she is having an affair with RJ Ronnie. Things take a turn for the unexpected. What happens next is what the film all about.
“The ghost element is symbolic and no ghosts are actually shown in the film. The film is more of a thriller and murder mystery. I feel murder mysteries in Bengali films are not so well made and hence I took the plunge of doing this film. The film begins with a relationship and then meanders to become a thriller” added the director.
Daminee Basu plays the role of Aditi in the film. “We had a great time on the sets. I and Jaya used to often start laughing in between shots and Kobi had a hard time controlling both of us. The shooting unit was like an extended family. I worked with Jaya for the first time but it never felt like that. She was so cordial that she even asked her mother to bring Sutki mach from Bangladesh as she found out I loved it very much” said the actress.
Prabuddha Banerjee who has composed the music for the film had known the director for many years and worked in multiple projects, famous among which is the film Phoring. “There are no songs in the film. The film has background music to carry forward the story. More than the ghost element, the turmoil in the relationships forms the important part and my music will help in highlighting the turmoil” said Prabuddha Banerjee.
Director duo Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy was also present at the occasion. The director duo was very positive about the fact that this film will be immensely liked by the audience just like the other films being shown earlier.
Jaya Ahsan who plays the role of Amrita in the film was full of praises for the whole team. “This is one production unit where I did not have any stress. It was really fun to work with the whole unit. We had a great time shooting” said the actress.
The film will be aired on Zee Bangla Cinema Originals on 17th May, 9 pm onwards.
