Tanu weds Manu Returns Kolkata Promotions
“I always had conflicting ideas when it came to marriage. When I look at my parents and see them leading a happy and contented life together, I gain trust in the institution of marriage. At other times, when I see divorces and the other problems associated with marriages, I shrink away from the idea of getting married. Hence I do not know what will happen in the next few years regarding my marital status” said Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut with a smile at the promotions of Tanu weds Manu Returns in Kolkata. The actress was accompanied by R. Madhavan who is the male lead in the film.
The film Tanu weds Manu Returns is a film set four years after the first film Tanu weds Manu. In the first film two distinctly different individuals meet and they fall in love. In this film they are shown to be married and their marriage is on the verge of divorce. Whether they are able to save their marriage and find love is what the film is all about.
Kangana Ranaut, fresh from her win at the National Awards for her portrayal of a free spirited woman in Queen was extremely straightforward when asked about her selection of roles. “See, when I was working before I did not have the liberty to actually pick and choose the roles!! But after this win, I have the liberty. I am at a position now where I can actually accept or reject a particular role” said the feisty actress.
Kangana will be seen in a double role in this film. “I have always been given challenging roles. In this film I had to pick up an accent which was extremely difficult. But when you are an actor, you have to try and I did that. I just hope people like it and appreciate the effort that I put in making Kusum credible” added the actress.
Madhavan had a different take altogether on the concept of marriage. “No marriage in the world is completely full of fun. It has its shares of downs too. I am lucky my wife had been part and parcel of both the successes and also the failures in my life” said the actor.
Both the actors said that the humor in the film is subtle and relatable. The humor in the intense story will always bring a smile to the face of the audiences when they will be watching the film.
“For me the story is always more important than the characters. And you see when the scripts are good, the characters are difficult ones. The same is the case with this film too. But I had a good time shooting the film” said Kangana.
Kangana also added that the film is a quirky and fresh take on the institution of marriage. “What role does a man have in a self sufficient woman’s life? That question is faced by the many young girls in today’s time. We all enjoy our freedom and are self sufficient. Gone are the days when women depended more on women and had to get into marriage for security. Now women can manage themselves well and take care of the securities too. Then why marry?” added the actress.
Directed by Anand L Rai, the film is slated for release on the 22nd of May.
