Operation Smile India’s “A Mile for Smile-Walkathon”, kicked off from Vivekananda Park with over hundred participants who supported Operation Smile India’s Mission of a cleft-free India. Tollywood Actress Locket Chatterjee was present to support the cause along with famous sport persona Mr.Gurbux Singh, Chief Operating Officer Colonel Shivaji Samaddar (retd) and members of Operation Smile India’s Kolkata team. The Walk-A-Thon had been organized as curtain raiser event for the forthcoming 10th Kolkata mission. The representatives from mission partners and mission supporters also joined in the walk.
The Walk-A-Thon started from Vivekananda Park, passed through Safari Park and Lake Kali Bari, and came back to Vivekananda Park. This charity walk saw hundreds of morning walkers joining the rally in between, in support of the cause.
“Operation Smile is organizing its 10th medical mission in Kolkata, where 100 needy children will get free comprehensive cleft surgery. With this walk we want to create awareness across Kolkata and West Bengal about cleft surgery among the people”, said Col. Shivaji Samaddar(retd), Chief Operation Officer, Operation Smile India. Till date, Operation Smile India has provided over 23,000 Free Comprehensive Cleft care surgeries across India and over 5000 Surgeries in West Bengal.
Actress Locket Chattejee said that in her own small way she is making her contribution in making the people aware of such surgeries. “I hope that people will come to know about this and get their children treated” added he actress.
With such noble initiatives taken, many children will be free from such problems in the future in India.
