50 Years of Director Tarun Majumdar’s Film Making Career celebrated
Ace director Tarun Majumdar who has been vowing the audiences with films like Phuleswari, Gonodebota, Songsar Simante, Nimantran completed his golden jubilee in the art of film making. At an event recently held at ICCR, the ace film maker was honored in the presence of actress Madhabi Mukherjee, Shoma A Chatterjee and Biswajibon Majumdar. The event was hosted by Cine Central Kolkata and West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association.
Speaking at the occasion, Shoma A Chatterjee said “I grew up in Mumbai and I remember watching Tarun Babu’s directed Balika Badhu. I was in college then and I was so amazed with the film. Later at a seminar in Kolkata I watched Nimantran and I was so impressed with his direction and the way he presented the actors. His films are simple depicting the life of the common man. Music in his films is another thing which is so beautiful. Though he directs lesser films now, his films are what I look forward to watch”.
Madhabi Mukherjee who had watched many films directed by Tarun Majumdar was in awe of his film making style. “His films made us realize that men are remembered with the work that they do. I watched a lot of films. Sound of Music and Palatak are the two films which I have watched thrice. I can watch these two films again and again as one gets a different meaning every time one watches the film” said the veteran actress.
Tarun Majumdar thanked the organizers for the event. “I was even not aware that I have spent fifty years as a director. I still feel that I want to work at a continuous pace. However my mentors have all passed away. Such people are no longer beside me. Things have changed in the industry and that matters a lot” said the director.
The director is also busy shooting his next film Bhalobasar Bari with Rituparna Sengupta in the lead role after a gap of eight years.
