Story became the hotbed of discussion on woman empowerment when eminent personalities from different fields including Aparna Sen, Mandar Banerjee, Alokananda Roy, Kalyan Roy along with the cast of the movie Choukaath brewed up storm of opinions on the topic “Sita ke aar kotobar agni porikhha dite hobe?” (How long will Sita have to go through the baptism by fire?).
Sreelekha Mitra, Tota Roychowdhury and director Raja Dasgupta along with Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, who was the moderator for the evening, spoke on the basic premise of the movie that revolves around the centrepiece of honesty vs truth. “The film Choukaath explores the fact whether truth for one person is the same for the other person. It may not be the same for everyone. If it differs, how the relation and equation with your dear and near ones are affected, is what the film deals with. This thought has been the driving force when I was writing the story of the film” said Paramita Ghosh, author of the story based on which Choukaath has been filmed.
According to ace director Aparna Sen, honesty is a very personal matter. Honesty is a multi-dimensional issue and a lot of how one perceives it, depends on the viewpoint of the person. Women mainly have to suffer much due to this fact- what is truth and what one believes to be the truth.
Poet Ms. Mukhopadhyay felt that the film speaks about the plight of women in a decisive manner and hence the ending is such that it keeps the self-respect and dignity of the lead character intact. She also pointed out that women in real life often cannot achieve this and it is time that they start taking decisions about their own life.
Tota spoke about the two-faced nature of human beings and how it affects every aspect of our life.
The film Choukaath, directed by Raja Dasgupta has Sreelekha Mitra, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Bidipta, Sayoni Ghosh in important roles. Choukaath releases on the 31st of July.
