Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte and director Ketan Mehta were in Kolkata for the promotions of the upcoming Bollywood film Manjhi-The Mountain Man.
Manjhi-The Mountain Man has been inspired from the real life tale of Dashrath Manjhi. He tirelessly carved out a path in the mountain with a hammer and chisel so that the villagers could easily take the ailing to the nearest hospital for proper treatment. His wife, Phaguniya had died due to this lack of treatment. Speaking at the press conference, the director Ketan Mehta said “The story inspired me. I wanted to tell this tale to my audience about a common man’s love and dedication for his wife. Hence I made Manjhi for the audience”.
Radhika Apte who plays the role of Phaguniya in the film mentioned that they had a great time shooting the film. The actress also mentioned that had they not shot at the Gehlaur village in Bihar, she would have thought this story to be just another romantic tale. However after seeing the road, her perception changed and she understood what humans could do with the strength of their will and determination.
When questioned about the reason for the selection of Nawazuddin and Radhika Apte in the lead roles, Ketan Mehta said “They suited the roles perfectly well. They have made their place in the film industry with their hard work and dedication. They are not star kids, but they are great actors who have become stars now. Nawazuddin had been in the industry for fifteen years before he got his due recognition. Hence who will be better than him to play the lead role of Manjhi?”
The mountain played an important role in the film. Hence, the ace director thought of shooting the film at the real life location which will lend authenticity to the film and the audiences will be able to relate properly with the film.
The film Manjhi is slated for release on the 21st of August.
